Goodbye Sweet Girl

Updated June 17th, 2007

On Friday, June 15, Susie passed over the Rainbow Bridge. Her body failed her but her little tail never did. Susie was one of the saddest Dals we have seen dumped in a shelter. Very old but not ready to die. Laying on a wet concrete floor struggling to get up. Desperate for someone to come help her. We took her in knowing no one would ever adopt her. Sherry & Nunzio lovingly cared for during her last year. Carly and Brian sponsored her and sent money each month for toys and treats. We hope she knows how much she was loved.

Found wandering the streets of Miami, this 10+ spotted girl is on her last legs. But one look into her eyes and we couldn't leave her to die at one of the worst places in Florida. Almost eaten up by fleas and wet from being sprayed when they cleaned the cement runs, the kind person who pulled her for us found her unable to even walk - looking so pathetically sad with those eyes. She kept slipping on the wet floors to get out but all the while her little tag wagged just a little.

Susie, as she was named, was taken immediately to a vet to rid her of all the fleas. She is very arthritic and hard of hearing but we believe no dog should have to suffer this inhumanity.

Susie is resting comfortable at Sherry's. We had to isolate her in case she comes down with kennel cough which is common from that shelter. She's having a hard time getting up but is eating well and we've started her on pain meds for her legs. She will probably be a care-for-life unless someone will come forward to promise to love her even if for a little while.

Special thanks to Pati, our sister rescue for getting her out and to a vet; Frank N., our forever faithful Dal rescuer; and Sherry and Nunzio for providing a place with love for yet another old spot.
